Erwin Mortier was born in a little town Nevele, near to Ghent. On 28th November 1965. He is living with radio and television maker Lieve Vandenhaute. He studied art history and gain his certificate of psychiatric nurse. He worked between 1991 and 1999 in the Dr .Guislain Museum as a scientific employee. There, he worked on a design of the history of psychiatric. Mortier made his debut In 1999 with the highly successful novel Marcel, who was awarded the “Van der Hoogtprijs Gerard Walschap” and the “Gouden Ezelsoor”. Marcel, the book was nominated for the “Libris literatuurprijs” and “de Gouden uil”. A year after his first book came out there were forty thousand copies already sold. His work came also in the following countries: Germany, France, England, Spain and Poland. He wrote a book about his mother’s disease Alzheimer, “Gestameld liedboek. Moedergetijden” in 2011. He and his family were devastate about it.
